Pierre Huet Calvados & Cider Poiré (Pear)

Varities used: Plants de Blanc, Fosset, Poire de Cloche, Mordouet

Pierre Huet's medium dry cider (AOP Pays Auge) is made using traditional methods:

  • Apples apple are picked at the most suitable level of ripeness manually and are machine washed
  • They are crushed in open air vats to give the juice its colour and to release its aroma
  • The pulp is pressed within an average output of 650 litres per ton
  • Juices are naturally clarified
  • Fermentation is slow (1 to 4 months)
  • The Appellation Cidre Pays d’Auge is obtained following testing by the INAO (Institut National des Appellations d’Origine)
  • The cider is non-pasteurized cider and some natural fermentation occurs in the bottle
  • Annual production : 15-20,000 bottles

  • Appearance: pale yellow colour, thin bubble.
  • Nose: intense fruit, subtle ripeness.
  • Tasting: clean and refreshing.

Suggested serving temperature is cold (8 to 10°C).

Serve as an apertif (ie. on its own) or with Creme de Cassis (a 'Kir Normand').

In the bottle, the Poiré continues to ferment (due to the yeasts).  It's best to store this product upright (not on its side) at a temperature of 10°C for up to 3 years.
